Since the release of Theme Park Tycoon 2, one of the most popular games in its genre, a lot has been written about it. This includes analysis, opinions and reviews from players. One thing which remains largely unexplored is the actual script from Theme Park Tycoon 2 - who wrote it? What did they write? Why was it made? In this blog post I will be showing a detailed breakdown of all 37,000 words in Project64's original copy of Theme Park Tycoon 2's script using their own language/language dictionary. The following is a summary of the findings: No actual text was found under any of the "mystery" sections - these were just blank lines. However, we did find three hidden sections which were labelled as such: "Music", "Vault" and "PREDICTION". These sections contain mostly unused graphics and music. Below I will be detailing what each section is actually about and how it differs from Wonderland's original script. The script runs continuously from the main menu, through the first scenario and on until scenario 36 (the finale). During this process it uses a lot of repetition and similarities can be seen between scenarios. The first thing that becomes apparent from the script is that Project64 must have been a member of the developer team as some sections are slightly more complex and detailed than those found in Wonderland's original copy. The most noticeable difference is the opening of scenario 1, which shows all 7 scenes when in Wonderland's script it only includes 5 scenes. The scenes are much longer in Project64's version, with the additional scenes covering every possible attraction layout. It is also worth noting that when Wonderland cut down their original script, they were able to reuse this opening scene - which means it must have been short at one point in time, but this length didn't suit them later on in development. Much of the music used in the game is identical to that found in Wonderland, which is extremely frustrating for developers trying to make their own versions. As a comparison, I have included two versions of the main theme which are easily distinguishable by the lack of "doubles". The music in Project64's version was written by Dave Richards, who wrote all 7 main themes for Wonderland, whereas Wonderland only used 3 of these themes in their game. Therefore, it doesn't really make sense why Project64 reused so much music when they had access to Dave's original files. This could be because they didn't have enough original material themselves or that Dave Richards had given them permission to do so. All the graphics in the game are identical to Wonderland's with no differences. From my analysis, I have decided to categorise all images in Theme Park Tycoon 2 into two types - "Original Wonderland Images" and "Reused Wonderland Graphics". The following are examples of "Reused Wonderland Graphics": The following are images that are "Original Wonderland Images": The following are images that are "Reused Wonderland Graphics": Throughout the process of analysing the script, we've discovered that there is one section that has been changed significantly from Wonderland's original copy: The empty primary section at the start of every scenario. eccc085e13
